Casebeskrivelse:
What is the project about?
Presence is a geo-based instant messaging concept. The idea is that Presence allows the user to “place” messages on a location. The user can send the message to a friend or several friends. The receiver is only able to read the message when they arrive at the location. It is our task as students to adjust the concept, explore its possibilities and develop a mock-up or a prototype.
Our case
We will explore how the concept of placing messages on certain locations can be linked to other functions than messaging and product marketing.

The first meeting with our case partner (Day 1)
07/09 2016
Today we met our case partner Combine. At the meeting we were introduced to our new case “Presence”.
Presence is a geo-based instant messaging concept. The idea is that Presence allows the user to “place” messages on a location. The user can send the message to a friend or several friends. The receiver is only able to read the message when they arrive at the location.
We will explore how the concept of placing messages on certain locations can be linked to other functions than messaging and product marketing.
The original idea behind “Presence” was in a social matter, but at the meeting we discovered that the case partner was very open minded about which direction we wanted to proceed and explore.
Brainstorm (Day 2)
08/09 2016
Today we talked about the meeting with the case partner, and out from that we brainstormed about our ideas for the concept.
Field work (Day 3)
09/09 2016
Today we created a survey for the possible user groups and an interview for one specific user group. Survey 1. is directed at people whom is new in town, and focuses on the obstacles that can come with it. Survey 2. is directed at locals and focuses on their use of media to inform them about the events and activities going on in their city.
Field work (Day 4)
12/09 2016
After a few days of letting people answer our survey, we were ready to look at the results. After seeing the answers, we decided to focus on survey 2 that were directed at locals.
The survey give quite a few insights into how locals use media to be informed about what is going on in their city. A majority of people use social media and no one answered that they use an application. To the question regarding if people would use an application, which collect all the information about ones city many people responded positively. Some pointed out that they wanted to be able to customize the application to make sure they only got content relevant for their specific needs.
Field work and meeting with Combine (Day 5)
13/09 2016
We wanted to gain some more insights about our target groups and therefore we arranged for some field work in the city of Aalborg.
We split up in two groups to maximize our time. Group no. 1 went to Kildeparken to observe people playing Pokémon Go. This app Is similar to Presence and therefore we wanted to know how people use this app. We observed that the group of people playing Pokémon Go is very wide. Group no. 2 interviewed a lady from Visit Aalborg to get to know more about the tourist who visits Aalborg and the Northern part of Jutland.
Video sketches (Day 6)
14/09 2016
Most of the day was spent on lectures about video making. In the afternoon, we elaborated ideas for our video sketches.
The five ideas was:
– Street art: Paint your own street art in an app.
– Give a present: Send a present to at friend who has to pick up the present at a specific location.
– Visit Nordjylland: Get notifictions about events and offers in the area where you are travelling.
– Events in your local area: Get notifications abourt events in your local city.
– Geo messaging: Get new friends around the world, and learn about different cultures.
Video sketches (Day 7)
15/09 2016
From the sketching ideas we developed five storyboards to visualize the ideas. In the process of making the storyboards we made a few adjustments before making the video sketches.
We decided to use different methods in our video sketches. We both filmed some real life clips, started drawing small figures and making graphics in Photoshop. We prepared to put all the clips together in to one video sketch.
Making the video sketches (Day 8)
16/09 2016
On this day we collected all of our clips and graphics to make the final video sketches. You cab watch the finished product under the menu video sketches.
Presenting our video sketches (Day 9)
19/9 2016
We meet with Nanna from Combine to present our Ideas and video sketches. While showing our video sketches we talked about how our ideas would work in the real life. We discussed what obstacles we could run into if we wanted to go further with the ideas.
Choosing our final product (Day 10)
20/0 2016
After our meeting with Nanna we had some difficult choice to make. We had to choose our final product that we wanted to work with. After some talk we ended up with a quite different idea then what we started working on.
We chose to work with the street art APP but we wanted to make quite some changes. Instead of focusing on the already existing street art we decided to put our focus on painting the street art yourself trough the smartphone.
The rest of the day we filmed a lot of scenes for our presentation.
Putting the ends together (Day 11)
21/9 2016
The day before ShowTime. So this has been quite a busy day. We been given different tasks because the time is short. Everyone working on putting the final video together.
We have been filming the last scenes for the final video and putting the different scenes together.
